Optimism
Denis Waitley (motivational speaker) and author of the book Psychology of Winning said that"optimisim is vital for survival and success". I would like to discuss survival (the ability to endure adverse or unusual circumstances) and success ( the progressive realization of predetermined worthwhile goals) and why optimism is vital for both of these events. Historically there has been an ancient call from both Philosophy and religion to choose optimism over pessimism. What is optimism? is optimism vital? We can best answer these questions by first stating what optimism is not. Optimism is not " a head in the sand denial of reality" type thinking. Optimism, in fact, confronts reality with a type of habitual thinking that puts the most favorable meaning on reality and constantly anticipates the best possible outcome. Pessimism, on the other hand, is a type of habitual thinking that puts the least favorable meaning on reality and constantly anticipates the worst possible outcome.
The way we choose to see things is very powerful. In the words of Wayne
Dyer " If you change the way you see things the things you see will
change". We can choose to see life through an optimistic lens or a
pessimistic lens. The Rev. Cecilia Loving ( ordain pastor and spiritual
leader) says "whatever we experience and become is a result of the vision
that we hold of life" You see it's up to us.
